Regis Francis Xavier Philbin, born on August 25, 1931, in New York City, was an American television personality, talk show host, and cultural icon. With a career spanning over six decades, Philbin became one of the most recognizable faces in television history, beloved by audiences for his wit, charm, and infectious enthusiasm. Philbin's early career in broadcasting began in the 1950s, working behind the scenes as a writer and producer for various talk shows and game shows. His big break came in 1967 when he was cast as the sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show, a late-night talk show hosted by comedian Joey Bishop. Philbin's quick wit and affable personality made him a fan favorite, and he quickly became a familiar presence in American households.

In 1983, Philbin began his legendary partnership with Kathie Lee Gifford on the daytime talk show Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee. The show, which aired in syndication, featured Philbin and Gifford engaging in lively banter, interviewing celebrity guests, and discussing the latest news and pop culture trends. Philbin's chemistry with Gifford and his natural ability to connect with audiences propelled Live! to the top of the daytime ratings, making it a staple of morning television for over a decade. In 2001, Philbin welcomed a new co-host, Kelly Ripa, and the show was rebranded as Live! with Regis and Kelly. In addition to his work on Live!, Philbin was also known for hosting the wildly popular game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? which debuted in 1999.
